August 10, 2026 – Edinburgh – CoralPoint, the global pure-play sustainability consulting firm dedicated to the energy transition, today announced that Michael Thomson has joined the firm as a Principal Consultant, focused on our Finance & Transactions and Capital Projects service areas. Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Michael will support developers and investors with buy-side and sell-side technical due diligence, Lenders’ Technical Advisory (LTA) services, Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD), and project development support across wind, solar, and battery energy storage system (BESS) technologies.

As renewable energy projects continue to increase in scale and complexity under increasingly challenging market conditions, investors, lenders, and developers are placing greater emphasis on advisors who combine deep technical expertise with commercial insight and real-world development experience. Michael brings more than a twelve years of experience spanning renewable energy development, M&A, and project finance. His background combines first-hand project development experience with the delivery of technical due diligence on many of the renewable energy sector’s largest acquisitions, divestments, and debt financing processes. Having worked across both onshore and offshore technologies throughout the project lifecycle, Michael brings a practical, commercially focused perspective that helps clients navigate complex investment and development decisions.

Prior to joining CoralPoint, he held positions at Wood, SSE Renewables, and Meridian Energy. During nearly seven years with Wood’s Advisory Services team, Michael led technical due diligence and LTA assignments supporting gigawatts of onshore and offshore renewable energy transactions and project financings. In the offshore wind sector, he acted as Project Manager on six offshore wind LTA mandates, as well as over twenty offshore wind M&A engagements, further strengthening CoralPoint’s industry-leading capability in offshore wind transaction advisory.

On the industry side, Michael served as an Offshore Wind Development Project Manager at SSE Renewables and as a Project Development Manager for Meridian Energy, New Zealand’s largest electricity generator. In these roles, he supported the development and maturation of a portfolio of wind, solar, and BESS projects, providing valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities faced by project developers and investors.

Michael holds a Master’s degree in Aero-Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde.
