CoralPoint Launches H2 2026 Global Wind Market Forecast

Global wind installations to exceed 250 GW a year by 2034, with offshore growing at around 12% a year

Aarhus, Denmark – Oct 1st, 2026 – Brinckmann Intelligence by CoralPoint has published the H2 2026 edition of its Global Wind Market Forecast 2026-2036, now available to subscribers. Brinckmann Intelligence 2.0, CoralPoint’s redesigned market intelligence platform, will roll out to subscribers during October, following its preview at WindEnergy Hamburg in September.

The H2 update points to a widening gap between underlying wind demand and the pace at which projects can be delivered. Outside China, onshore capacity is forecasted to more than double from around 615 GW at end-2025 to 1.32 TW by 2036, while offshore capacity rises from around 46 GW to 314 GW. Across both segments, however, grid availability, project economics, financing and policy stability are playing a greater role in determining when planned capacity reaches operation.

The revisions since the H1 forecast underline this shift. The US accounts for most of the downward revision to the Americas onshore outlook, as tighter tax-credit qualification requirements and interconnection constraints reduce expected project conversion beyond 2027. European onshore expectations have also been lowered in several markets, including France, Sweden and Spain. By contrast, India adds more mid-term volume in Asia Pacific, with Vietnam contributing further growth later in the forecast. Offshore revisions are more positive, with Canada adding a credible longer-term market in the Americas and stronger visibility in France, Poland and Ireland lifting the EMEA outlook.

Offshore wind nevertheless remains more dependent on the strength of support frameworks and project bankability. A significant share of European capacity previously expected before 2030 has shifted into the early 2030s following failed or undersubscribed auctions and grid delays. Governments are increasingly responding with redesigned support mechanisms, including greater use of two-way Contracts for Difference. CoralPoint forecasts EU wind capacity reaching around 340 GW by 2030, approximately 85 GW below the 425 GW WindEurope estimates would be required for wind to make its contribution to the EU’s 42.5% renewable-energy target.

China remains the largest single source of global volume, accounting for around 1.26 TW of forecast onshore additions and almost 200 GW of offshore additions during 2026–2036. Outside China, growth becomes increasingly diversified. EMEA remains the largest ex-China growth base, while India, Vietnam and Australia strengthen Asia Pacific onshore growth and France, Poland and Ireland broaden Europe’s offshore growth base.

Brinckmann Intelligence 2.0 is CoralPoint’s redesigned platform for delivering its intelligence products and datasets. It is designed for a more interactive, continuously updated research experience, with improved tools for navigating and working with data, and lays the groundwork for further development, including AI-enabled functionality. The H2 2026 forecast will be among the first new research available on the platform as it goes live, together with research published earlier this year.

"This forecast shows a market moving from steady early growth into a genuinely global build-out. Brinckmann Intelligence 2.0 is designed to help our subscribers follow that shift as it happens," Lee Clarke, CoralPoint Partner & Head of Research

Subscribers will receive access details for Brinckmann Intelligence 2.0 during October.
